Elvis

ElvisAlso known as The Spectacular Spinning Songbook Tour — not unlike Yo La Tengo’s similarly game-show inspired trek earlier this year, and exactly like the one the bespectacled singer first did in 1986 — The Revolver Tour features Elvis Costello and the Imposters (i.e. The Attractions minus bassist Bruce Thomas and plus bassist Davey Faragher) playing to the whim of an audience-determined spinning wheel of musical fortune that features 40 career-spanning Costello cuts. Since 1994, it seems as though no Costello tour is complete without a stop at The Ryman, and this outing — which kicked off back in May.

is no exception, as it was just announced that the singer, with Imposters in tow, will spin their way to the Mother Church on Sept. 25. Tickets are $44.50-$79.50. They go on sale this Friday, July 15 at noon, here. According to Costello's official site, among the wheel’s selections are “Watching the Detectives,” “Beyond Belief,” “Oliver’s Army,” “Radio Radio,” “Veronica,” “Clubland,” “Temptation,” “Green Shirt,” “Blue Chair,” “Red Shoes,” “Lipstick Vogue,” “Living in Paradise,” “Pump It Up,” “Human Hands,” “Alison,” “Accidents Will Happen,” “(I Don’t Wanna Go to) Chelsea,” “High Fidelity” and more. Sounds like a fun night. In loosely related news, the show comes precisely one week before many-time Costello producer, tour-mate.

Local, enthusiastic rock geeks like myself might recall that Elvis Costello and the Imposters’ last Ryman appearance was, by a mere two days, preceded by a Lowe-fi solo serenade at The Belcourt. While I’m happy to count my blessings and give thanks that either of the famed Stiff-era songwriters — let alone both — is frequenting Nashville in such close succession, coming so close to witnessing a potential onstage collaboration is maddening. Especially considering the “Costello Sings Lowe, Nick Sings Elvis: A Rare Bashing of Each Other’s Songs” housing project benefit the pair played together in San Francisco last ye
