One Pa

One Pa Yesterday, Erie hit a record high of 89 degrees, matching records set in 1937 and 1879. As much as I’d like to complain about the heat especially since my air conditioner is inoperable at the moment, it’s nice to have something besides chilly rain to worry about. A few more days of this and the lake in my back yard may dry enough to get a mower through there. Welcome to June!It appears a faulty gasket is to blame for the boat explosion at the Erie Yacht Club on Monday that killed Erin Carlisle of Erie. Also injured in the blast were Erin’s husband Ryan Carlisle, Aaron Hertel and Michael Brown of Hertel & Brown Physical and Aquatic Therapy, Hertel’s 2-year-old son, and Rachael Palkovic. The injured adults were taken to UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh for treatment, while the two year old boy was taken to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.Erie School Board has accepted the 2011-2012 proposed $130 million budget, which will not be available to the public until June 10. However, some details of the budget have already been revealed.

Hundreds of positions are set to be eliminated, including 240 teachers, 20 administrators and some behavioral and mental-health specialists. The budget also recommends a 0.96 mill tax increase. This increase would raise $1.8 million for the district, and the annual tax bill for an owner of a $100,000 house would increase from $1,780 to $1,876. The School Board’s final budget discussion is scheduled for June 15. What do you think of this plan? Is the school district moving in the right direction
